Ed's Fiery Furnace
Ed Crowe Real Life Experience Speaker
My name is Ed Crowe. I have been a certified welder and superintendent in the oil, gas, mining, and food processing industries for over 35 years. I have seen firsthand the dramatic transformation of the safety culture and its effect on the way we do business. Unfortunately, many of these changes have come about due to the incidents that have happened in the work force.

On March 8th …..
Of 1983 I suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 37% of my body (complete face, both ears, right arm, back, and right leg) because of a lock out tag violation. Due to the severity of my injuries I was given a 50% chance of survival. It was only by the grace of God that I survived. I am a very unique survivor of a serious burn. Doctor Richard Grossman, head of the Sherman Oaks Burn Center, when asked by my family how I would look if I pulled through, he told them with 3 or 4 plastic surgeries we can get him looking pretty good. Doctor Richard Grossman referred to me as “The Miracle Man.” After a debridement surgery to my face removing all the dead skin and several skin grafts to my right arm, face and both ears, a thick black scab formed. When the scab healed the skin underneath was like that of a baby. Dr. Grossman said to me “I’ve never seen this happen before. You don’t need any plastic surgery!” After being told I would be in the hospital 4 to 5 months, I walked out in 3 weeks. In time to make Easter services at church on April 3rd.
